Shopping for kids bike can always be a challenge. If you bring them along you risk ruining the element of surprise, but you want to have the right gift under the tree too. We’ve put together some things to help you shop and hopefully put your mind at ease.

First, let’s talk bikes. We proudly sell Trek and Giant kids bikes that are assembled at Mellow Johnny’s by the very same mechanics that work on every bike that we sell. Just like every new bike we sell our kids bikes come with 2 tune-ups during the first year of ownership at no charge. Along with the lifetime Frame warranty we stand behind what we sell, so if you take the bike home and have a problem, just bring it back in and we’ll make it right.
The Right Size
Figuring out the right size is one of the hardest things for a parent. Luckily, our staff has tons of kids bikes and gift giving experience. Let us help you determine what size is right. On our kids bike guide you’ll see recommended ages for bikes, use these ages as starting point but also know that if your child is on the bigger or smaller end of the spectrum they could possibly go up or down.
When possible you can always try to get your child’s inseam and we can use it to help the process. Often, parents want to get there child a bike to last them, we’ll do our best to pick the bike that fits for years, but is still safe to ride now. Again, if the bike goes home and isn’t right just come back in and we’ll get the right size. We’ll also make sure the fit is correct, as well as making sure your child’s helmet fits properly.
Lastly, all Trek Kid’s bikes feature their “Dialed Fit” meaning the grips are sized for their hands, cranks are the right length, saddles the right size—in other words they took the time to put kids bike size components on kids bikes.
